About us

Since 2011 we have been one of the largest and most active organisations in the Skadovsk district and the Kherson region. Our work focused on developing civil society and getting young people involved in active public life.

On 24 February 2022, the first day of Russia’s full-scale invasion, we quickly refocused our work and began providing humanitarian aid to the people of the Kherson region.

Today speed and flexibility are critical for us — and this is exactly where your support makes a difference.

We provide financial assistance to individuals and organisations so that we can respond quickly to urgent needs. To do this, we constantly need to replenish our resources — and we need your financial support.

Our team coordinates several local aid centres in the Kherson region (Skadovsk, Kalanchak, Kakhovka, Lazurne) and provides people affected by the fighting with essentials: food, medicines and transport.

We work with local authorities, a network of volunteers and partner organisations. To keep the work stable, we run several independent aid supply channels, so that any one of them can be replaced quickly if needed.

Activities and initiatives

01

Financial assistance

We make payments to help individuals and organisations meet needs as they arise. We constantly need to replenish our resources — and we need your financial support.

02

Humanitarian delivery

We coordinate several local support centres in the Kherson region — Skadovsk, Kalanchak, Kakhovka and Lazurne. We provide people affected by the fighting with the humanitarian aid they need, food and medicines, and we organise transport.

03

Supply coordination

We work together with local authorities, volunteers and partner organisations. To keep aid flowing without interruption, we build several independent support channels — each of them can be replaced quickly if needed.

The place of strength where it
all began

Skadovsk is a small port town in the south of the Kherson region, on the Black Sea coast. Before 2022 it was home to around 14,000 people, with a working sea port and thousands of holidaymakers from all over Ukraine every year.

Today the town is under occupation. This is where our organisation’s story began — and this is where we are preparing to return.

Certificates

These certificates belong to the whole team and to the community, which never stops for a moment. Our experience and official letters of thanks are a guarantee that every resource from our sponsors goes towards real change and recovery.

Preserving our roots
to revive the city.

These photos are proof of our many years of work and of life in Skadovsk before the war. Our goal today is to bring in as many resources and sponsors as possible, so that rebuilding can start the moment the town is liberated. Join us in this work.

Our projects —
not just plans, but real help for those who need it today.

SOUTH Cultural Hub

Let’s rebuild Ukraine’s South together: we bring communities together in Lviv to bring the way home closer!

The SOUTH Cultural Hub — in full, the SOUTH Cultural and Community Centre — is the relocation project of Light House — Home of Bright Ideas and the Dzharylhach Island Museum (founded in Skadovsk in 2020 and 2021). SOUTH is a living platform where experience of working with liberated territories meets Lviv’s potential to design the future of Ukraine’s South. We have not simply preserved our institutions — we have turned them into a foundation for return and recovery. We work to a unique model in which humanitarian aid and cultural strategy are inseparable parts of one process:

  • Survival: Emergency humanitarian aid and coordination in Kherson and the frontline areas.
  • Stabilisation: The Cultural Hub in Lviv as a “safe harbour” for adaptation and psychological support for internally displaced people.
  • Development: Building professional communities of architects, urbanists and artists who develop concepts for rebuilding the South.
  • Return: Creating an intellectual and human reserve to carry out projects straight after de-occupation.

Berehynia Evacuation

Become part of our strength: from emergency evacuation to systematic support for every corner of the Kherson region.

Seeing the danger grow, at the end of June 2022 our Young and Initiative team launched a humanitarian evacuation mission. We organised the safe evacuation of civilians from hotspots and frontline towns of the region, including Kherson, Skadovsk, Kalanchak, Kakhovka and Lazurne. The mission is called Berehynia — in Ukrainian tradition, the guardian who protects the home and the family.

  • Legitimacy and coordination: Every step we take is agreed and carried out in close cooperation with the legitimate local authorities of these towns.
  • The strength of partnership: We have brought together a wide network of reliable volunteers and international partner organisations, which lets us act quickly and systematically.
  • The humanitarian track: An evacuation run is not just transport: it also supplies people with medicines, food and the help they need at every stage of the journey to safety.

Rebuilding homes: Workshop of the Unbroken

While our home waits to be liberated, we bring back hope: homes rebuilt by the hands of unbreakable Ukrainians.

While our native Skadovsk waits to be liberated, the Young and Initiative team is widening its support. We understand that people need not only humanitarian aid but a roof over their heads as well. That is why we launched the Workshop of the Unbroken — an initiative to rebuild and repair homes damaged by the fighting.

  • Fast logistics and coordination: Thanks to productive cooperation with the local authorities, we got the work going quickly: we set up a warehouse, unloaded building materials and prepared premises for storing and lending out professional tools.
  • Helping each other: No outside building crews — only the joint efforts of volunteers and the residents themselves bring life back into damaged houses.

Light House Youth Centre

A space where young people and active citizens find the tools for self-fulfilment, for preserving culture and for bringing bright ideas to life.

Light House — Home of Bright Ideas is a modern community and youth centre, created to energise society and bring like-minded people together around important social initiatives. It is a space for growth, where everyone can gain unique experience, make new connections and become part of meaningful change in the community.

  • We run project management courses for young people and local residents, and hold non-formal training sessions.
  • We bring young people together through an active lifestyle, organising sports tournaments (streetball among them) and all kinds of cultural events.
  • We help civil society organisations make their own media and carry out large cultural projects, among them photo competitions and art exhibitions.

Strengthening mental health and helping children and teenagers adapt — in frontline communities and in communities that are new to them.

The project works to improve the mental health and emotional stability of children and teenagers who have been forced to move to other communities, and of those still living in frontline ones, and to help them settle into a new environment.
